Don Barclay, meet Don Barclay

Don Barclay was an nondrafted free agent signed to the Green Bay Packers in spring 2012.  But when doing a bit o' research to learn more about this former West Virginian football player, I came across plenty of other images and information about a much different Don Barclay.  Apparently, the name has been used before!  Meet the late Don Barclay, actor and comedian:

It's Aaron Rodgers time

I felt the compulsion to write about Aaron Rodgers today.  Yes, we all know much about this fellow, but perhaps you weren't aware of the following little tidbits of information.

1.) He's number 1 in NFL history for career passes.

2.)  He lives in Chico, California.

3.)  Suspended Sunrise Recordings is his very own record label.

4.)  He was a pitcher on his high school baseball team.

Herb Taylor's birthday!

Today, September 22, is Herb Taylor's birthday.  Shout out to number 72 turning the big 2-8.

Herb Taylor was born in 1984 and has played football at Texas Christian College and been on the roster (practice or otherwise) for the Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos, and New York Giants.  Will his 28th year bring more action on the field?

Since his birthday is on a Saturday, maybe this means a night out on the town.  Dinner, a couple drinks, and lots of dessert--cake and ice cream, of course!  Happy birthday, Herb Taylor!

My top favorite parts of his site are the following:

-  Sharp photography.  Greg Jennings looks like a stud in every picture--dressed up or down, in a jersey or not.

-  Video clips. Greg Jennings' site features some cool video clips right on the main page that get me pumped to see him in action this season (more than I already am).

-  Family/father link.  Greg Jennings' three girls are posed with him along with a couple paragraphs about his family life.  I love getting this look at our favorite Green Bay Packers players.

Bryan Bulaga's Stats

It was this picture of Bryan Bulaga:

His hands make the football look tiny!  Or is it because he's playing with a kiddie sized ball? Tricky, tricky.

that made me decide I NEEDED to check on his height and weight stats.  This Green Bay Packers player is enormous and such a threat on field! My guess as to his heft was a good 6'5" and 325.

Turns out I wasn't far off.

Bryan Bulaga's official Green Bay Packers website profile lists him at 6'5" and 314 pounds.

Just to do a little comparison shopping on those stats, here's what that means.

Bryan Bulaga is as approximately as tall as Snooki (4'9") standing on a female Labrador retriever (21").

Bryan Bulaga is roughly the weight of President Obama (176 lbs.) + the first lady (165 lbs.) - their dog Bo (35 lbs.).

What completely useless and irrelevant information!  You're welcome.  Just remember those details when you see Bryan Bulaga take the field this fall.  He's a big guy and we're proud he's on the Green Bay Packers!

AJ Hawk's bird profile

So AJ's last name is, obviously, Hawk.  Here's a picture for you nonbird lovers.

So fierce.

I guess if you had to have an avian last name, "Hawk" is better than just about everything else.  Hawks are amazing birds with great hearing skillz and can see eight times better than humans.  Speeds of up to 150 miles per hour have been reported when a hawk swoops in for the kill.  Fast?  Strong?  Great senses?  Sounds like AJ to me.  

What would be the worst bird related last name for a football player?  Chickadee?  Those little birds are sweet but that certainly wouldn't inspire any fear among an opponent on the football field.  Flamino?  Pink.  Thin.  Graceful.  Not good for a linebacker.  And maybe just because of how it sounds, Dodo would be the worst.  Hawk is sounding better by the minute!

Jerel Worthy's Tat

Jerel Worthy is one big dude.  This makes a great canvas for some black ink.

His left shoulder and bicep is tastefully engraved with a tattoo of a Michigan State Spartan.  The shield, sword, and helmet are spot-on.  The Spartan is tough and dedicated, gazing out fiercely at any who dare meet his gaze.

But, wait!  What's that?

The Michigan State Spartan is standing atop something in this visual depiction.  Is it a shag rug?  A hay bale?  No!  In fact, Jerel Worthy's tattooed Spartan is standing triumphantly on the back of a University of Michigan Wolverine.

I admire Jerel Worthy's passion for football and his team.  Now he'll have to reserve the right bicep for a picture of a giant cheese crushing a Chicago Bear or Minnesota Viking.  Somehow that image lacks the same zip....

Jon Hoese heads from Minnesota to Wisconsin

In 2011, Jon Hoese officially signed with the Green Bay Packers.  He was fresh off a season with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers so Wisconsin territory was not far away.

Jon Hoese was born in Glencoe, Minnesota, a little town of nearly 6,000 west of Minneapolis.

Jon Hoese was relegated to the practice squad for the 2011 Green Bay Packers season, but there's always another chance for him to move on up this time around.

At 6'2" and 238 pounds, he's got the size to compete professionally thought it's a shame his beautiful flowing locks have to be smashed under a helmet.

Nonetheless, let's hear it for our Minnesotan-turned-Wisconsinite.  Go, Pack, go!

Brandon Saine's Musical Tastes

Brandon Saine is known for his incredible speed on the football field.  Since many people use music to pump up before games or work-outs, let's take a quiz about Brandon Saine.

Perhaps Brandon Saine enjoys the contrast of mellow R&B to the intensity of his onfield performances.  Either way, next time Brandon Saine comes flying across Lambeau Field, we all know he was pumped up for action by R&B music.  Cool.

Sean Richardson's Hometown

Sean Richardson, like any other guy in the U.S., was stoked to be picked up by the Green Bay Packers.  However, it was his hometown that perhaps even more excited than even Sean was.

Linden, Alabama is where Sean Richardson calls home.  It's a city of just over 2,000 people and that small town pride reverberates especially when there's something big to celebrate.

So when Sean Richardson signed on the dotted line with the Green Bay Packers, it made Linden history.  No other athlete had ever even earned a DI scholarship and Sean Richardson had done just that.

And once Sean Richardson signed with the Green Bay Packers, Linden did something huge: the town gifted Sean Richardson with a key to the city.  Amazing!

This honor was not taken lightly and Sean Richardson will do a great job representing his little town in the NFL this season.  You can bet that every TV in town will be tuned in to follow all his games this year.

Marc Tyler's Hair Options

Marc Tyler is a newbie to Wisconin's cold climate and quiet cities which are half a country and light years from his college years in California.  I'm not sure if this will inform his hair decisions for the upcoming season, but if he's looking for a bit more head warmth, he can find it with this 'do:

Charlie Peprah's Beat Machine

Charlie Peprah is a talented Green Bay Packers player with passions in a wide variety of venues.  However, it's his interest in a beat machine that is perhaps the most unique.

This kind of contraption would be mesmerizing for most people I know.  There are buttons for all different kinds of sounds and drum patterns.  Put it all together and you have the ability to make some awesome songs for play for family and friends.

Not sure if Charlie Peprah publishes his music online somewhere, but, if not, I'd be interested to hear what kind of beats he lays down.  

Jordy Nelson Day!

It may be August, but flip the calendar ahead to 2013 and get ready to party on February 17th.  According to Kansas Governor Sam Brownbac, February 17th will henceforth be better known as the official Jordy Nelson Day statewide!  Yee-haw!

This got the ol' wheels turning about how to celebrate Jordy Nelson Day in my own life.  Here are a few options.

1.  Peruse the internet for Jordy Nelson video clips.  There are plenty!

2.  Look like your idol: shave your head!

3.  Travel to Kansas and visit Jordy Nelson's birthplace in Manhattan, Kansas.  A true Green Bay Packers pilgrimage!

Duane Bennett: Illinois-ian turned Minnesotan turned Wisconsinite

Duane Bennett is known in Minnesota for his sweet plays with the Minnesota Golden Gophers.  During his time on the college team, Duane Bennett captured attention nationwide, particularly for this cool 96 yard kickoff return versus....who else?....the Wisconsin Badgers!



Who knew that months later he would be drafted by the Green Bay Packers?

Though he's a young guy, he's already made himself known throughout the midwest.  He grew up in Illinois and graduated from high school in 2007 after a stand-out career.  Soon enough, he'll be known nationwide and we'll all be chanting his name at Green Bay Packers football games!  Go Duane!

Aaron Rodgers' Twitter Account

You've got to love living in 2012 when Green Bay Packers players can entertain us not only on Lambeau Field but off-field and out of season as well.  Green Bay Packers players have personal websites, Facebook fan pages, and Twitter.  Aaron Rodgers is no exception.

Aaron Rodgers keeps up his Twitter feed pretty regularly...about every other day or so.  He's accumulated an impressive number of followers, averaging into the six digits.  A few of my top Aaron Rodgers tweets include this one from the summer:

It's always fun to get a glimpse into each Green Bay Packers player sense of humor and personality and I think these give us a bit of Aaron Rodgers...especially on May 9th when he apparently didn't have much else going on!

Jerron McMillian's Happy Side

One thing I've noticed about NFL players over the years is that they take themselves pretty seriously.  Game day is a time for serious expressions and some trash talking.  Officials get an earful if they make a controversial call for the other team and coaches especially like to get good and angry on a weekly basis.  

The truth, though, is that these guys need to realize two things:

1.  They're playing a game.  A GAME!

2.  They made it to the NFL.  Let's see some happiness! 

A spot on the Green Bay Packers roster is the stuff of dreams for many guys across the country.  These men are living the dream.  Therefore, I always smile when I see pictures of Jerron McMilian looking like he's having an absolute blast on the field.  Case in point:

He gets paid to work out and compete a few months a year.  It's amazing and Jerron McMillian seems to appreciate his well-deserved success.  Maybe this season we'll see some more smiles out there on Lambeau Field; in the meantime we have Jerron McMillian!

Alex Green's Family

I just updated about Alex Green, but needed to revisit him another time for this post.  After doing a little online research, I found out that Alex Green may be a single guy, but he has a little family all his own.  Alex Green makes his home in Portland, Oregon and shares his time with his daughter, Harlym, three years old and his son, Kingston, one.

Let's add a kiddie bike trailer to the back next year!

Alex Green....now what kind of father would he be?  Is he a pushover whose kids can stay up past their bedtime or eat dessert for dinner?  Or does he run a tight ship with strict rules and consequences?  I'd love to get a sneak peek into his time with his little ones to see just what kind of dad he is.  Knowing Alex Green's speed and finesse on the football field, I'm sure that playtime at his house involves plenty of ball kicking and throwing.  Fun times with some mini Green Bay Packers fans!

Charles Woodson's Foundation

We all know and love Charles Woodson for his onfield performances, but it's his off-field work that has me liking the guy even more.  Charles Woodson started his own foundation (you can view his official online page here) and he's making a difference in the lives of people all over the country.

The Charles Woodson Foundation encompasses support for the C.S Mott Children's Hospital in Michigan, the Charles C. Woodson Scholarship, and the Georgia A. Woodson Scholarship.  Between these three enterprises, Charles Woodson has plenty to stay on top of.  The site is easy to navigate and features a sidebar that makes it easy to donate to his many causes.

So check our Charles Woodson's charity work today.  He's yet another stellar Green Bay Packer player!

Alex Green at the University of Hawaii

Hawaii is a honeymoon destination and hot vacation spot for the young and old alike.  But can you imagine going there to do serious studying?  How about playing a focused college sport in the tropical heat?  That's exactly what Green Bay Packers running back Alex Green opted to do for his college experience at the University of Hawaii.  Wow!

The University of Hawaii is a huge entity with seven community colleges and three university sites under its huge umbrella.  The school set up shop in 1907 and has served people all the way from associates to doctoral students.

Alex Green did well on the University of Hawaii football team and we're happy that he changed up his deep Hawaiian green jersey for that of a sharp green of the Green Bay Packers!
