Sam Shields is ready to rock you like a hurricane

The title for this post is courtesy of the 1984 smash hit by the hairband Scorpions.

Hurricane RecordWhat a bunch of studs, eh?

Yet this mind-blowing track is also directly connected to Green Bay Packers #37, a rockin' force in his own right. Though Sam Shields is new to all of us Green Bay Packers cheeseheads, he was a category four in his college days with the Miami Hurricanes. This dude clocked a 4.2 second 40 meter dash--the fastest of all the Hurricanes!

Sam Shields HeadshotI can feel the gusts from here. Board up the windows, mother!

We're lucky to have this force of nature on Lambeau Field this fall. He was drafted in 2010 and is slated to be a Green Bay Packers cornerback after playing as defensive back for the past four seasons in college ball.

Now, to end this post, I have one last Green Bay Packers treat for you up my sleeve.

Wait for it...

Wait for it...

Hurricane Sam Shields
You're welcome.

Pat Lee's Coldest Winter Ever

If you're looking for a good read this summer, Green Bay Packers cornerback Pat Lee can point you in the right direction: The Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah. The book revolves around the action of Winter, a female teenage protagonist, who endures a difficult upbringing, broken family, and faces homicide and drug use in her neighborhood.

Coldest Winter Ever
Though Winter's life is much more challenging than Pat Lee's, it's pretty clear that the novel's title was fitting for his first season with the Green Bay Packers! Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Pat Lee played for Auburn's football squad and was at home in the sultry climes of Alabama. Yet in 2008, Pat Lee was drafted to the Green Bay Packers and was whisked away to the frozen tundra of east-central Wisconsin. No wonder his knee gave out in December of that year--it snapped like an ice-encrusted twig unused to the subzero temps at Lambeau Field!

Cold Pat Lee
Fortunately, Pat Lee has acclimated his body over the years though he maintains a home in Miami for those brutal Wisconsin Januarys. You can see him in his arctic glory this season. Hopefully he stays hot this season with the Green Bay Packers!

Gingers for Tim Masthay!!!

Think fast! What do the following pictures all have in common?

Ariel the RedheadRedhead Tim Masthay
Redhead Queen Elizabeth II know you weren't expecting a pop quiz today, but I hope the similarities (and the obvious title of this post) helped you along. Yes, these fine folks are all proud redheads. Carrot tops. Pelirrojos. No matter the language you speak or country from which you originate, we can all agree that redheads are pretty awesome people. I should know. I have orange hair, too!

Tim Masthay, Green Bay Packers free agent acquired in 2010, along with Ariel, Queen Elizabeth I, and myself are all part of an exclusive club. Less than 2% of Americans have blazing locks; roughly just 4% of people worldwide can boast the same. It is the rarest hair color on this planet, people! And Green Bay Packers' Tim Masthay has the most burning hair on his team.

Let's hope his firey hair matches his on-field fire for playing in the NFL. (How'd you like that segue?) He is still a little known player who comes from the Kentucky Wildcats college football squad and was drafted in 2009, but quickly released just three months later, by the Indianapolis Colts. Since the Colts didn't work out, I'm chalking it up to the fact that Tim Masthay decided red hair looks best with green uniforms (opposite on the color wheel!) and has been angling for a spot on Lambeau Field ever since. Let's wish him the best this 2010-2011 Green Bay Packers season and see some red out on the field!

Bryan Bulaga Player Profile

Bryan Bulaga was born March 21st, 1989 in Crystal Lake, Illinois. Bulaga played football for Marian Central Catholic High School and went on to play college football at the University of Iowa. In college, Bulaga was dominant from the beginning. He was named Freshmen All Big Ten and was on the 2009 Outland Trophy watch. After his junior season, Bulaga declared for the NFL Draft. He was selected by the Green Bay Packers with the 23rd pick in the draft of the 1st round. Bulaga will spend this season competing with veterens Chad Clifton and Mark Tauscher for playing time at the tackle positions.

Anthony Toribio

Anthony Toribio is a defensive tackle for the Green Bay Packers. Toribio was born on March 1st, 1985 in Miami Florida. He was signed as a practice squad player by the Miami Dolphins and now is a member of the Packers. He was a practice squad player for the Packers, and is currently a member of their 53 man roster. He played college football at Carson-Newman College. You have probably never heard of Anthony and Toribio and I hadn't heard of him until I was told to write a post a about him and that is because he is not a good football player who will have no impact on the Packers next year.

Justin Harrell

Justin Harrell was born in 1984 in Martin, Tennesse. In high school, Justin was known as one of the greatest athetes in the nation as he averaged 17 points a game in basketball and was the star of the football team. In high school, he played defensive end and tight end. Prepstars named Harrell an All-American athlete his senior season in high school. Harell then went on to play his college football at the University of Tennesse. The Packers selected Harell with the 16th pick in the 2007 draft and have probably regretted it ever since. His contract included 8 million dollars in guarentees and thats probably all he is every going to get. He played his rookie season but has been injured ever since. He spent the 2008 season on injured reserve and also spent the 2009 season on injured reserve. This guy is probably a wuss or he is the least durable player in the NFL. Here are some players selected after Harell that turned out to be much better: Reggie Nelson, Brandon Meriweather, Jon Beason, Dwayne Bowe.

B.J. Raji

B.J. Raji is a nose tackle for the Green Bay Packers. B. J. Raji is the oldest of Mamie and Busari Raji, Sr.'s three children. His younger brother, Corey, is a sophomore forward on the Boston College basketball team. B.J. Raji's nickname is Earthquake. Raji is from New Jersey. He was selected by the Packers with the 9th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. He's been okay so far, he's nothing special though.

2010 Game I Want To Go To

The game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. There's nothing better than seeing Brett Favre playing against the Packers again. Plus he's pretty cute for an old man!! The Vikings won both games last years but the Packers have had another year to grow with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Expect the Packers to maybe sneak out a win this year against the men in purple. Buy tickets to that game at Ticket King!!!

Player Profile: James Jones

James Jones was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the 2007 NFL Draft in the 3rd Round. Jones played his college football at San Jose State. He is known as "JJ from SJ". He really is not very good. He had an okay rookie year and an okay 2009, but was almost nonexistant in 2008. Looking at his career stats, you can tell that he really hasn't done much for the Pack since entering the NFL. A lot of this can be attributed to the fact that he is behind Donald Driver and Greg Jennings on the depth chart.

Career NFL statistics as of 2009
Receptions
99
Receiving yards
1,390
Receiving touchdowns
8

Giddy Up! Jerimichael Finley

Jerimichael Finley grew up in Lufkin, Texas. He went to college at the University of Texas and had a very productive junior season, which led him to decide that he would forgo his senior season and enter the NFL draft. Upon hearing that Finley was leaving, Texas head coach Mack Brown had this to say, "Finley finished his career ranked among the most productive receiving tight ends in school history and handled himself well both on and off the field during his time at Texas." Finley was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2008 NFL draft. Finley was not very good his rookie season. He caught six passes for 1 touchdown in 14 games. He stunk it up!! Finley had a great second season. He was a major part of the offense as he scored 5 touchdowns and caught 55 passes for over 650 yards. Finley should contribute even more next season as he continues to blossum . He has a bright future. Gooooo pack!!!

We're Not in Kansas Anymore Jordy!

Jordy Nelson grew up in Riley, Kansas and went on to play at Kansas State University. Nelson is a spectacular athlete who holds the Kansas 3A 100m dash record. With the 5th pick in the second round of the 2008 NFL draft, the Greenbay Packers drafted Jordy Nelson after his monster senior year in which he caught 122 balls and scored 11 touchdowns. In 2009, he caught 22 passes for 2 touchdowns. To be quite frank, Jordy isn't really a factor for the Packers. Mostly because of the amount of depth that the Packers have at wide receiver. He tends to struggle against elite competition. Most notably when he's faced with the daunting task of playing against the stronger and far superior Minnesota Vikings. Just kidding Packer fans!

Donald Lee

Donald Lee is a Mississippi-born Green Bay Packers player. Lee originally was drafted by the Miami Dolphins off his Ole Miss Football team in after graduating a four-year letterman in 2002. After two years at with the Dolphins, Donald Lee was signed by the Green Bay Packers as a free agent for the 2005 NFL season. With the injury of a teammate, Lee was able to shine at tight end and gain the fourth spot on the team in receiving. In 2007, Lee signed a four year contract which will end at the end of the 2011 season. Working with Brett Favre over the past season has definitely helped Donald Lee’s performance and the Packers expect to see great things from him in the future.

Greg Jennings

Greg Jennings currently plays for the Green Bay Packers football team. In 2006, Jennings was recruited off his Western Michigan college football team and has been going strong with the Packers ever since. As an explosive playmaker, Jennings ranks fourth in the NFL for touchdown catches and yard receiving average. Greg Jenning’s contract expires in 2012 but there is a very good chance that he is here to stay.

A fun fact about Greg Jennings is that he has known his wife since the fifth grade at his Kalamazoo elementary school and they were married in 2005. The couple now has two daughters and they try to involve the girls in as much community involvement as possible. In 2008, Greg started the Greg Jennings Foundation and hosted his second annual Greg Jennings Celebrity Golf classic, for Habitat for Humanity, that same year.
