AJ Hawk's Hair Donation

Up until this season, AJ Hawk's hair has been the most eye catching thing about his style.  The long hair was in memory of the late NFL player Pat Tillman, a U.S. Army member who gave the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan back in 2005.  Many people thought this was a great way to honor Pat Tillman and make his presence a reminder on and off-field in the ensuing years.

But in spring 2012, AJ Hawk went ahead and got his hair cut.  Again, his locks represented a worthy cause.  He donated his hair to the charity Wigs for Kids.  This program makes hair pieces for kids recovering from chemotherapy.

His hair plans may be done for now, but they've showed much about his character over the years.

Celebrity Sighting: John Kuhn

The city of York, Pennsylvania is where Green Bay Packers fullback John Kuhn lives year-round. Well, I have a friend who lives in the nearby Villa Green neighborhood. She was out getting coffee this summer in a local bistro, when out of the blue came John Kuhn in to buy a drink. He looked pretty much like this, minus the sweat and jersey.

She said he was wearing a blue polo, khaki shorts and flip flops. Fortunately, she is a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan and even though he didn't see lots of playing time, she was familiar with his face from occasional TV shots and his Steelers bio online. I'm not sure how much recognition he receives out on the east coast, so she said he seemed pleasantly surprised when she told him she was a fan. She had to leave quickly, but it made her day to see him in person--and it made mine to hear all about it!

I reminded her that John Kuhn is single, and according to pictures he's pretty cute. She said he is...but that old engagement ring on her finger is a pretty big barrier to any romantic involvement!

Green Bay Packers fans are lucky to call John Kuhn one of our own and though we probably won't bump into him at a coffee shop, we can get as close to the sidelines as we want by picking up our Green Bay Packers tickets any time.

Donald Driver, Children's Author

Donald Driver is a Green Bay Packers fan favorite on Lambeau Field. I know I've cheered him on during many a game. However, Donald Driver intrigues me even more for what he does the off-field. Back in November 2008, Donald Driver released his first children's book, Quickie Makes the Team.


This 32 page fully illustrated book was inspired by his two kids and proceeds will benefit the Donald Driver Foundation which finds aid for the homeless nationwide. Talk about a great guy!

Players like Donald Driver really secure the Green Bay Packers' status as my favorite team. He is a star player and awesome to watch, but also steps up to help others in need. Skim the Packers roster and you'll find lots of stand-up players like Donald Driver. They're just a great team and they make Wisconsin proud to wear the green and yellow!

Jason Spitz-- A Stand-up Guy

Green Bay Packers fans know Jason Spitz as an integral part of an offensive line that allowed Aaron Rodgers to do surprisingly well in 2008. But what the Green Bay Packers roster doesn't show is how involved Jason Spitz is when he leaves Lambeau Field. Throughout his life, he has been noted for many efforts at community service. For instance, he helps with the March of Dimes, Muscular Dystrophy Association and Family Services, Families of Children with Cancer, the Salvation Army, Edgar Bennett’s Celebrity Bowl-A-Thon, the Brett Favre Celebrity Softball Game, the Al Harris Stars and Strikes Celebrity Bowling Event, and more.


Though I may focus on the gossip and looks of my favorite NFL team, it's also important to acknowledge how much Green Bay Packers like Jason Spitz really are altruistic and involved and don't let their pro-football fame go to their heads.
